Port Call of Indian Army Sailing Vessel (IASV) Triveni in Buenos Aires as part of the Historic Tri-Services All-Women Circumnavigation Expedition
The Indian Army Sailing Vessel (IASV) Triveni is expected to arrive in Buenos Aires on 7 March 2026 (tentative, subject to weather conditions) for a scheduled port call. The vessel is undertaking a landmark Tri-Services All-Women Circumnavigation Sailing Expedition, and Buenos Aires will be the third international port of call on this historic global voyage.
- The expedition marks a significant milestone in maritime history. For the first time, a team of women officers drawn from the Indian Army, Indian Navy, and Indian Air Force is sailing together on a circumnavigation mission around the globe. Sailing aboard IASV Triveni, the six-member crew is navigating an easterly route that includes the formidable passages around Cape Leeuwin, Cape Horn, and the Cape of Good Hope. The expedition is expected to last eight to nine months, covering nearly 26,000 nautical miles, with four international port calls along the route.
- The crew currently sailing through the South Atlantic Ocean comprises Lt Col Anuja H. Varudkar, Maj Karamjeet Kaur, Maj Prajakta Nikam, Lt Cdr Priyanka Gusain, and Wg Cdr Vibha Singh, Sqn Ldr Shraddha P. Raju. Their courage, professionalism, and determination embody the spirit of excellence and resilience of India’s Armed Forces.
- This pioneering expedition celebrates the spirit of Nari Shakti (women’s empowerment) and aims to inspire young people to pursue adventure, leadership, and service to the nation. It also highlights the expanding role of women in India’s Armed Forces and seeks to raise awareness about maritime heritage, environmental stewardship, and the importance of protecting marine ecosystems.
- The arrival of IASV Triveni in Buenos Aires represents an important moment in this remarkable journey. It offers an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of these trailblazing women officers who are setting new standards in endurance sailing and contributing to India’s proud maritime tradition.
- The port call also reflects the warm and friendly relations between India and Argentina. It underscores the growing engagement and cooperation between the two countries, including in the field of defence, and reaffirms India’s deep appreciation for the friendship and hospitality of the Argentine people.
